Importing a Recipe from a URL
Last updated: April 2026
Grocerly can read recipes from virtually any cooking website β AllRecipes, NYT Cooking, Tasty, Jamie Oliver, BBC Food, Seriouseats, and many more.
How to import
- Find a recipe on any cooking website and copy its URL.
- In Grocerly, open the Recipes tab.
- Tap + β Import from URL.
- Paste the URL and tap Import.
- Grocerly processes the link in the background. You'll receive a push notification when the recipe is ready.
- The recipe appears in your library with the title, all ingredients (with quantities), step-by-step instructions, and the cover photo automatically filled in.
What gets imported
| Field | Imported? |
|---|---|
| Recipe name | Yes |
| Ingredients with quantities | Yes |
| Step-by-step instructions | Yes |
| Cover photo | Yes |
| Cook time / servings | When available on the source page |
| Category tags | No (you add these manually after import) |
After importing
You can edit any imported recipe just like a manually created one. Tap the recipe, then tap Edit to adjust ingredients, fix quantities, add category tags, or swap the photo.
Why does it take a moment?
Grocerly sends the URL to a server that fetches and parses the page. This usually takes 5β20 seconds depending on the website. The app will notify you when it's done so you don't have to wait on the screen.
What if the import doesn't work?
Not all websites are parseable. If a recipe fails to import, you'll see an error. You can try again or create the recipe manually instead.
