Adding a Recipe Manually
Last updated: April 2026
How to create a recipe
- Open the Recipes tab.
- Tap + → New Recipe.
- Fill in the recipe name.
- Add a photo (optional — see Adding Photos to Recipes).
- Set cook time and servings if you want.
- Under Ingredients, tap Add Ingredient and type the name. Grocerly will autocomplete from its 734-ingredient catalog as you type.
- Set the quantity (e.g., 2) and unit (e.g., cups, grams, tbsp).
- The blue dot next to an ingredient means it's recognized in the catalog — this enables Smart Sort later.
- Under Instructions, add each step in order.
- Add Category tags to help filter and find the recipe later (optional).
- Tap Save.
Tips
- You can add an ingredient that isn't in the catalog. Just type the full name and save. It will appear without a blue dot, and Smart Sort will place it at the end of its section.
- Quantities can use fractions — the app supports ½, ¼, and ¾.
- Instructions can be as long as you need — each step is its own entry.
