Adding Custom Ingredients

How to add a custom ingredient

1. Go to Settings → Ingredient Catalog.
2. Tap Add Ingredient.
3. Enter the ingredient name (this is the display name, e.g., "Sumac").
4. Choose a supermarket category (e.g., Spices).
5. Optionally add aliases — alternative names for the same ingredient (e.g., "za'atar" might be an alias for "thyme" if you use them interchangeably).
6. Tap Save.

The ingredient is now in your personal catalog. It will appear in autocomplete when you type its name (or any alias), and Smart Sort will place it in the correct supermarket section.

Editing or renaming an ingredient

1. Go to Settings → Ingredient Catalog.
2. Find and tap the ingredient.
3. Edit the name, category, or aliases.
4. Tap Save.

If you rename an ingredient that's already used in recipes, those recipes are automatically updated to use the new name. You don't need to update recipes manually.
